Air pollution and adult cardiovascular health
Investigators: Mieke Koehoorn, Paul Demers from Universtiy of British Columbia and AnneClair DeRoos from University of Washington
Some of the objectives for this study include:
- To enumerate a cohort of adults in the Georgia Air Basin over the age of 45 using registration records in the BC Linked Health Database;
- To assign acute and cumulative air quality exposures to all subjects. Exposure estimates are based on ambient air pollution measurements and individual estimates of traffic proximity and traffic-based exposure models;
- To assess the relationship between these exposures and acute and non-acute Cardiovascular Disease outcomes and autoimmune disease exacerbation; to further investigate the relationship between air pollution and Cardiovascular Disease among age groups independent of predisposing conditions, and among high risk populations with comorbid conditions (e.g. diabetes, respiratory disease)
